Today, we’re shining our spotlight on David Thomas, who shares his experience in supporting his colleagues, his interesting memberships and his passions. Keep on reading to find out more…

Hi David – thanks for chatting to us. First of all, can you tell us about your role?

Of course! As Commercial Manager, my day-to-day role is to generate new business, and grow that business once I get it in. I also help the team with any problems they might have with candidates or agencies.

Has your role changed since you started?

Yes – the role changed from my first day! Nowadays, as well as hunting for new business, I need to ensure the agencies and workers receive a first-class service – and now I get more new business from referrals than anywhere else, so I must be doing something right!

What do you enjoy most about working with candidates and clients?

First and foremost, I enjoy working with my colleagues! It’s true! But I also love getting other people paid. And I enjoy working as a go-between for our team and the agency. I want to help agencies work smoother and save them time – so they can grow their business, and at the same time, we can grow ours.

What’s the best part about being part of the Bishopsgate team?

The team! They’re a great bunch, and they always help each other and do what’s best for Bishopsgate.

OK, let’s find out a little more about you. How would your colleagues describe you in three words?

I want to say honest, reliable and a team player. But I did ask some of the team, and they said northern, gravy and bikes!

What’s the one thing people are surprised to learn?

I’ve been a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society for nearly 20 years!

Can you share a personal achievement you’re really proud of?

I played records as a DJ at an afterparty for the Who!

And most importantly… which do you prefer, coffee or tea?

Both! I like good strong coffee, but if I had to choose one it would be tea. But not just any tea – it HAS to be Yorkshire Tea.

Back to business, what excites you about the future at Bishopsgate?

I’m excited about going into the next chapter, diversifying our client base and utilising our portfolio of services, and adapting as and when legislative changes are introduced to the sector. I’m also looking forward to introducing the various companies within the group when I see an opportunity. And growing the team at Bishopsgate – particularly developing a strong sales team to help us grow as a business.

And finally, tell us something we might not know about you?

When I’m entertaining clients, I love an ‘Irish exit’ – and I’m very good at it! I know a few colleagues think I spend most of my time networking in pubs and bars. But sometimes, the last thing I want to do is go out. So I carry on and smile – but when I need to leave, I go…quickly. And I never say goodbye!
