Bishopsgate Group has appointed Ryan Smith as its new Managing Director.

Bishopsgate Group has appointed Ryan Smith as its new Managing Director, providing continuity in leadership as the business moves into the next stage of its development.

Ryan steps into the role after five successful years as Commercial Director, during which time he has worked closely with the Bishopsgate team and developed a thorough understanding of the business, its values and its ambitions for the future.

He succeeds Luke Shannon-Little, who moves into the role of Group Director of Compliance at Bishopsgate’s parent business, the Munnelly Group. Luke has personally overseen the transition to ensure a seamless crossover for clients, contractors and colleagues.

With extensive experience in the payroll industry, Ryan has a strong commitment to compliance and a clear understanding of the importance of Bishopsgate’s contractor-first approach.

Ryan’s approach combines analytical rigour with a strong focus on people. He is passionate about developing high-performing teams and creating a culture built on collaboration, resilience and accountability.

Throughout his career, he has negotiated multimillion-pound contracts, launched new service lines and helped secure key accounts, using data and insight to improve operational efficiency and support growth.

Starting his career in sales, operations, and account management in 2005, Ryan went on to build a diverse commercial & professional background across several key industry roles. His experience includes Field Sales at a Fortune 500 company, working as a 360 Recruitment Consultant at a market-leading recruitment agency, and progressing to a Sales Manager role at a payroll services company.

He established Global Umbrella Services as Managing Director before joining Lesters UK, where he progressed from Sales Director to Commercial Director, and joined Bishopsgate Group as Commercial Director in 2021.

His appointment as Managing Director builds on the foundations established under Luke’s leadership, with the business focus remaining firmly on the task of continuing to deliver the high standards of service, compliance and support that clients and contractors both demand and expect.

Central to the next stage of Bishopsgate’s development will be its continued commitment to putting contractors at the very heart of its operations, combining compliant payment solutions with dependable service and support.

As part of the Munnelly Group, Bishopsgate will continue to work closely with its parent business to uphold shared standards of governance and operational excellence, supported by the Group’s philosophy of ‘One Group, One Mission, One Standard’.
