We are delighted that you have chosen to join our Umbrella scheme. If you have not done so already to complete your registration, we will require you to sign our contract and also send proof of your eligibility to work in the UK.

Before your first payment, we would like to make you aware of a few key things.

How does Umbrella work?

Bishopsgate will liaise with your agency/hirer in respect to any assignments and invoices for work you have carried out, to ensure that you are paid on time in each pay period.

The rate you have agreed with your agency/hirer to complete your assignment is not your rate of pay. It includes employment costs such as Employer’s National Insurance and Holiday Pay, which your agency/hirer will factor in to the assignment rate paid to Bishopsgate.

As your umbrella company, Bishopsgate will employ you and pay you under the terms of your employment contract.

Bishopsgate Benefits

As you have joined Bishopsgate on our umbrella payment scheme, you are now our employee. This means you are entitled to all the statutory rights that you would benefit from if you were directly employed, including sick pay, maternity and paternity pay and holiday pay.

All Employees have statutory entitlement to paid annual leave. You can choose how your holiday pay is processed to you, please see further information here.

Bishopsgate will notify you each time you receive a payment with a courtesy text and an email with a copy of your payslip.

We have a fully manned customer service team that operates Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm who are happy to field any questions you may have, as well as 24-hour team who operate outside of those hours.

Please note that payment will be with you before the close of business on the day you are due to be paid.

Workplace Pension

After 12 weeks of employment you will be automatically enrolled onto a workplace pension scheme with the Government pension provider NEST.
We calculate pension contributions based on your Gross earnings, this is your earnings prior to Tax and National Insurance deductions. If these earnings exceed £192.00 per pay period, then both you and Bishopsgate Employment Services will make contributions towards your pension pot.

Bishopsgate will make employer contributions to your retirement pot and you will make member contributions.

-Employer contribution 3%

-Your member contribution 5%

If you decide that you don’t want to put money aside for your retirement just yet, you have the right to opt out. You must do this within the opt-out period, which is normally one month from the date your enrolment began. NEST will contact you and give you full details on how to opt-out.

Working time regulations

The Working Time Regulations 1998 require that you do not work for more than 48 hours in any week unless you have agreed in advance to waive that limit. You will be able to waive that agreement in the opt out notice that will be sent to you separately. You can read more about the Working Time Regulations here.

You will receive a separate notification from us confirming if you wish to opt-in or opt-out.

Online Portal

You will receive an email which includes an activation link for your online portal. This will give you access to your payslips at any time of the day for your convenience.
